Dan Pitt’s Opinionated Compendium of Downtown Palo Alto Restaurants
Sad, indeed. Zibibbo’s last meal was on Saturday. I’m sorry I got no advance notice to pass on to you. But it’s not like they were liquidating their wine cellar; it will all go up to LuLu in SF.
Zibibbo had quite a run. Fifteen years? They went through a Herculean effort to build the facility, what with the purgatory that the Palo Alto Planning Department runs you through, so it’s gratifying that they got so much mileage from the effort. I personally have used Zibibbo in many different ways: there alone for a drink or a meal at the bar; taking my wife and kids for a family celebration, or out-of-town friends who appreciate fine food and wine; meeting a colleague after work for a “beer” (which often was, instead, an aged Alsatian riesling or a Bandol rosé); dining with one colleague, or two, or twenty; I even had my board of directors there. So I personally will miss it. Heck, I’ve just had to relocate a large group dinner I had booked there for late June.
The good news is that the owners are selling the business, so I hope it turns into another unique and satisfying restaurant. (Note to landlord: Please, not another hacker space on the ground floor.)
